Taffy St. Clair

Cabaret Automagically™ · 2026

Artwork for Taffy St. Clair
Taffy's the type of person who bounds into a room
in a sea of patchouli and never stops talking
Certainly, less of a drag name than a non de plume
(as she shakes the powder off a cheap pair of stockings)
still and all, her lip synching outshined her poetry
(especially during pageants when she would perform
songs we had not heard since Moby Dick was a guppy)
By contrast, villanelle readings were always lukewarm
"What isn't disjointed is utterly repugnant!"
She would bellow through her bong as she got high backstage
"It's just an observation, dear, and not a judgement!"
One could barely hear the show over Taffy's outrage
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that Taffy
would no sooner sneeze than blow a bouquet of darts to
the neck of a "fan". When asked for an autograph she
will ask, "For my sonnets or my sequined platform shoes?"

About the Song

Taffy St. Clair is the drag name of a dear friend; may they rest in peace. For our drag names, we used the age-old formula of our childhood pet being our first name and the street we grew up on being our surname. Taffy is an outrageous character and based on many people I’ve met – not solely my friend who shares the name. Still in all, they loved this poem when I wrote it many years ago.

We love you, “Taffy”

We all tried to be your Venus

You wanted to be Mercury
